Mindset matters! Kick off 2023 with the right one!

Happy New Year! As you kick off a new year, with a clean slate and perhaps a few goals in mind, I’m curious if you’ve given any thought to the mindset you want to have this year to support your goals? Haven’t really thought about it? Cool! Read on because that’s what this month’s newsletter is all about!

Simply put, mindset is everything. It’s the difference between feeling motivated or demoralized; enjoyment and distain; peace and force.

Just think about it. If there’s a task you don’t want to do and you approach it with a mindset of “I have to” or “I should,” how are you feeling about it? How do you feel about the person “making” you do it? How do you feel about your lot in life?

Conversely, if you think about that same task from the mindset of “I want to” or “I get to,” how are you feeling about it? How do you feel about the person who is “making” you do it? How do you feel about your lot in life? Probably a whole lot better.

It doesn’t change the fact that you will be doing that task. But it does change your attitude about it, HOW you approach the task and your interactions with others involved.

Believe it or not, shifting your mindset isn’t that hard. All it takes is a conscious pause and a powerful mantra statement to decide how you want to show up in each moment.

My mantra for 2022 was “I am limitless” and it helped me set the tone for how I wanted to encourage myself, believe in myself and trust myself. My mantra for 2023 is “I get to.” I get to try new things. I get to meet new people. I get to create new opportunities. I get to get up when I fall down. I get to pivot and try again when things don’t work out as planned.

Interested in setting your own mantra for 2023? Read on!

I encourage you to come up with your own mantra for the year. Here are a few questions to help you determine the perfect phrase:

1. What do I want my every-day attitude to be?

2. Why is this important to me?

3. What will this attitude allow me to experience?

4. How does this translate into a simple mantra statement?

HINT: Sometimes starting with the words “I am” can create a powerful mantra statement. Also look for action-oriented words to add energy to your statement.

Now, start saying it to yourself throughout the day. Perhaps journal about it. Perhaps share it with someone else who can help hold you accountable for living it. And, share it in the comments – would love to support you in living your mantra and having a powerful mindset to take 2023 by storm!
